I have prayed about penning an article on this topic since a well-respected, expository preacher argued for taking the Mark of the Beast while falsely teaching that this willful decision to align with the kingdom of darkness may be repented of. Not only is this an egregious sin against the King of Glory but scripture teaches precisely the opposite.
An excellent, scriptural explanation is available from John Little at OmegaShock.com which debunks a heresy as pervasive as ivy in my backyard.
I have had a word picture in mind, since being convinced of the deception of the Pre-Trib Rapture (PTR), and that is Charlotte’s Web a beloved story to generations. As anyone who lives in the woods can attest, spider webs are woven tightly making an efficient trap for catching insects.
As God began to remove the scales of bias through which I read eschatology, the PTR fell away like sand through an hourglass. Thus, my sincere prayer remains that the Holy Spirit bless many with spiritual discernment a gift available to all God’s children. An analogy, much like muscles atrophy due to a lack of exercise, failure to study scripture for ourselves can lead to error which is why we must diligently guard against deception (2 Timothy 2:15).
The Apostle Paul exhorts us to be as the Berean’s daily searching the scripture to see whether these things be so (Ac 17:11). Any tradition of men that disagrees with the Word of God must be abandoned, and it matters not if said teaching originated in the late 1800s or the 21st century.
After years of flipping between Daniel, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and Revelation I sincerely believe the PTR is a cunning, craftily devised deception with the potential to leave countless souls bewildered and perplexed when tribulation hits the shores of America. Brethren, we are surrounded by the reality of horrific persecution of Christians globally.
Prior to answering the question posed by the disciples as to what would characterize the days preceding His return, the Lord Jesus Christ repeatedly cautioned, And Jesus said unto them, “Take heed that no man deceive you” (Mt 24:4; Mk 13:5-8; Lk 21:8-9; cf. 1 Cor 3:18; Eph 5:6; 2 Th 2:3; 1 Jn 3:7).
As disciples we will endure persecution for His Name, eventually culminating in great persecution at the hands of the anti-Christ. Our precious Savior teaches us life will bring many sorrows, trials, and tribulation prior to His Second Advent. One need not be a historian to grasp the truth that millions upon millions of saints have been slaughtered for millennia for refusing to deny Him.
A northern transplant to the south, there are spiders that I, never knew existed! Moreover, a recall an experience while attending college in Florida when I almost walked into a web bigger than my entire body (yes, slightly vertically challenged), some of these southern arachnids are toxic to young children and a source of nasty skin eruptions which often require medical attention. I refer to the brown recluse whose appearance causes one to grab a newspaper and swat it.
Please understand this is something my family was introduced to through a novel over twelve years ago, however, prior to that time I had never heard of it. So very grateful to brothers in our Lord Jesus Christ who began to challenge the bias through which I was reading scripture back in the year 2005.
Over the years, whenever something offends I have learned (and am yet learning) to step back and seek the Holy Spirit Who guides into all truth and through much repentance, study, and wrestling for approximately eight years my best advice is read the Word of God for yourself and see whether these things be so (Ac 17:10-11).
It matters not whether the PTR was sown into you from childhood; or, as in the case of my family, this confusion became rooted in you via a novel, Left Behind DVD, or tradition (leaven of the Sadducees and Pharisees = false doctrine, see Mt 16:6, 11, 12; Mk 8:15; Lk 12:1).
Every saint is indwelt by the Holy Spirit of whom the LORD said:
- And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Jn 14:16-18
- I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. 15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. 16 A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father. Jn 16:12-16
- For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. Ro 8:15-17
