Beth Moore’s Demonic “Visions”, Lectio Divina Ecumenism of the Religious Harlot

While it has been some time since EZC has written on the heretical teachings of Beth Moore, but heresy is rampant in the American church. Apostates depart from biblical Christianity, speaking with Christianese to deceive the naive and it certainly is a profitable industry as any trip to “Life”way bookstore will confirm. A kindred spirit to Moore is Mark Driscoll who boasts of demonic visions conveying explicit, violent, pornographic acts involving young children, marrieds, and singles in his congregation whom he then counsels. A modern day seer with capable of merely look at a person and have knowledge of their sin, perhaps demonization, possession or claim of omniscience. Scripture is clear Almighty God alone is Omniscient. Theirs is a strange camp, and Beth Moore’s disturbing countenance, manic eyes, and excitability lead this blogger to suspect she has been given over to delusion.

Many, including our friend Ken Silva of Apprising Ministries have been warning of her errant teachings which so deviate from sound doctrine that I believe she is promoting demonic doctrine, and has succumbed to the very seducing spirits of whom the Lord Jesus Christ warned, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” 2 Ti 4:3-4

Religious syncretism is the purpose of wolf-pastoresses who link arms with whatever will accomplish the Roman Catholic new evangelization that has sought to restore what they deem separated brethren, all who adhere to the 5 Sola’s.

This came from our friends at DTT, to whom we send a thanks. Some of my own opinions as to why I believe Moore came in portraying herself like a dove and has completed the metamorphosis into a roaring lion that seeks to devour, mislead, and collect souls for the false church presently being erected. In her earlier “dove” days, promoting her Be Still DVD many endorsed the mystical, contemplative spirituality that is dangerous, among them James and Betty Robinson of LIFE Outreach Int’l who recently hosted Johnathan Morris, RCC priest and FOX news contributor.

Brethren, exercise spiritual discernment, hide the Word in your heart. Do not be led astray as many are to abandon the only hope available, rebirth in Jesus Christ the Lord and complete surrender to His Word resisting the doctrines of men no matter how popular. Countless are embracing the ecumenical “all religions worship the same god“; hence, the inference everybody gets to heaven is a lie originating out of the bowels of hell!

BETH MOORE AND JOHN PIPER LEAD LECTIO DIVINA-LITE AT PASSION 2012
By Ken Silva pastor-teacher on Jan 6, 2012

[The eyes are the window to the soul, do not Beth’s eyes appear a bit wild?  Piper just looks in a trance-meditative agony “trying to hear from Jesus”; but, birds of a feather … among his friends Warren, Driscoll, Chandler, et. al. John Piper speaks for the father of lies having previously said, “Grace that is not sufficient for all is insufficient grace” present were Louie Giglio, Mark Driscoll)]**

Apprising Ministries has been warning for years concerning the evil effects of the neo-liberal in the Emerging Church aka the Emergent Church.

It’s an incontrovertible fact that right from its hatching in hell corrupt Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism (CSM), such as that taught by Living Spiritual Teacher and Quaker mystic Richard Foster along with his spiritual twin and Southern Baptist minister Dallas Willard, was a core doctrine.

Spreading as a spiritual cancer throughout apostatizing evangelicalism, we even see that it’s slithered all the way into the New Calvinist neo-reformed camp e.g. as in Acts 29 Network And Reformed Counter Reformation Spirituality?  One of the fruits of CSM is a blurring of doctrinal lines, which is particularly dangerous in this time of postmodernism and growing spiritual blindness.

It’s also giving rise to a rebirth of Pietism; this isn’t surprising when you consider that CSM flowered in the antibiblical monastic traditions of apostate Roman Catholicism. As the evangelical fad of CSM expands there’s a decided charismania also developing, which is producing a syncretism where Word Faith heretics like Joel Osteen and T.D. Jakes are essentially considered mainstream now. With all of this has come more and more people claiming to have direct experience with God.

The end result is making the climate more condusive for things like Beth Moore Recommending “Jesus Calling” Book Claiming Direct Divine Revelation. This is the backdrop upon which to better see what’s happening as you watch the video clips to follow below from the Passion 2012 Conference. This conference has been going on in Atlanta, and was largely aimed at young adults and students.

Hosted by Louis Giglio, pastor of Passion City Church in Atlanta, Passion featured an interesting lineup of speakers such Francis Chan, Beth Moore and New Calvinist mentor John Piper. Not surpisingly the conference had a distinctive charismatic and even contemplative flair; for example, prayer walking. After one session the crowd was urged to break into “love groups” and go out to pray and “take back the city of Atlanta.

Years of emerging bombardment of pro-CSM propaganda aimed at younger sectors of the Christian community fired right out of evangelical publishing houses has also had much effect upon the broader culture of the more charismatic/emotion-driven side of the church visible as well.

Take for example SBC Lifeway-sponsored Beth Moore praising an apostate (at best) Roman Catholic mystic and the crown jewel of CSM, a form of meditation in an altered state of consciousness commonly known as Contemplative/Centering Prayer (CCP):

EZC UPDATE 9/13/2015 – video has been removed.

Moore’s admitted practice of some form of CCP, which is actually divination, has opened her up to even receive direct revelation and visions from God. Below from a 2002 series called Believing God, available right now at Lifeway’s website, Moore describes a vision God gave her concerning His Church.

Sounding not too unlike Word Faith wingnuts she tells us God took her into some kind of dimension where she was able to see the Body of Christ as Jesus sees it:

EZC UPDATE 9/13/2015 – video has been removed.

Apparently the Protestant Reformation was really some sort of horrible mistake because Moore’s Jesus sees the Roman Catholic Church as another Christian denomination. This becomes clear below as Moore demonstrates what she saw in her vision from God:

Who knows, perhaps he even shares Moore’s view that men like John MacArthur are guilty of teaching extreme error in the Body of Christ:

EZC: UPDATE 9/13/2015 – video has been removed.

By the way, the other extreme teaching in the Body of Christ that Beth Moore sees is what she calls “sensationalism.” Something I personally think she’s now become involved in. The CSM being dabbled with now in mainstream evangelicalism is producing a rebirth of Pietism; an emotional, sentimental, emotion-driven form of worship. What you saw at Passion 2012.

Christian apologist Bob DeWaay is dead-on-target as he explains:

Pietism is difficult to define because it can be taught and practiced in an unlimited number of ways. Some versions appear to be innocuous while others are so radical that most people would see that something is wrong. I now know that no version of pietism is actually innocuous. If a teaching is called pietism but teaches no more than what God has always used to sanctify Christians, then it is not really pietism. Real pietism always harms those who embrace it.
The essence of pietism is this: It is a practice designed to lead to an experience that purports to give one an elite or special status compared to ordinary Christians. The Bible addresses this error in the book of Colossians. The false teachers in Colossae claimed to have the secret to a superior Christian experience that would cause people to rise above the bad “fate” they feared. Paul went on to explain that they already had everything they needed through Christ and His work on the cross. Another way of stating this is: If after having fully trusted Christ’s finished work on the cross, you are told that you are still lacking something, you are being taught pietism.
Church history is littered with misguided pietistic movements. Many of them are linked with mysticism… Pietism can be practiced many ways including enforced solitude, asceticism of various forms, man made religious practices, legalism, submission to human authorities who claim special status, and many other practices and teachings.

In closing this, for now, I’ll show you something that gives us real cause for concern in the seeming dangerous drift of Beth Moore and John Piper. Following are clips from Session 5 of Passion 2012 where we were to enter into the silence to let God speak to us, not only through Scripture, but directly inside of us as well. However, this is language actually straight out of CSM and can also refer to the TM-lite of CCP.

Beth Moore, John Piper et al each took turns reading from the Book of Ephesians; then they each would ask for silence and say something along the lines of: “Be still and let Jesus speak to you.” This is Beth Moore:

Now John Piper:

UPDATE 9/13/2015 – video has been removed.

Finally, here’s Louis Giglio closing out Session 5. Any doubt about what’s been going on in the silence is dispelled at :20 below. To all but the most naive it will become clear to you that, contra the proper Christian spirituality of sola Scriptura, Giglio is talking about direct encounters with God in addition to Holy Scriptura:

“How many of you heard the voice of God speak specifically, clearly, directly, and personally, to you? Can you just put a hand up? I’d like you to share it. Can you put a hand up for a minute?

Just want you to look around; that’s people saying, “God Almighty (pause) the Maker of heaven (pause) the one Who’s sitting on the only throne (pause) that’s not under threat (long pause, audience cheers)—He spoke to me. He spoke to me.”

“God spoke to me.” (long pause) Don’t let the voice of the darkness, tell you that you are not (pause) worth (pause) that God would not speak to you. (pause) Don’t let him tell you, you don’t matter. (pause) God spoke to you.

Perhaps this is why more and more in the charismatic camp have been embracing the Roman Catholic Church as another Christian denomination; like Rome, they now also have the Bible…plus…

While like a plethora of other wolves, the above salivate to hunt souls as narcissism drives such men-pleasers well spoken (Lk 6:26), pant after manna, display grand delusion in all its splendor! As the Lord Jesus Christ alone daily builds His Bride, she is invisible yet growing worldwide; He says:

  • Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;” 1 Ti 4:1-2
  • Then the LORD said unto me, “The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.” Je 14:4
  • Thy prophets have seen vain and foolish things for thee:” Lam 2:14
  • Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits.” Mt 7:15-16
  • And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.” Mt 24:11
  • For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.” Mk 13:22-23
  • Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.” Lk 6:26
  • And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-jesus: Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God. But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith. Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him, And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?” Ac 13:6-10
  • But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not … But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; … But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man’s voice forbad the madness of the prophet. These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever. For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness.” 2 Pe 2:1-3,12-15-18
  • Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” 1 Jn 4:1

Beloved, it is imperative to test the spirits as the Bereans, “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Ac 17:11

To God be the glory as He protects His elect from error and guides us into all truth, for He is Truth!

  1. Are these people truly false teachers, or do they really love the Lord and are they possibly getting off the right path? The world is supposed to know us by our love for each other. Why don’t we pray for these people instead of dragging them through the mud? They may be in error but they are still our brothers and sisters in Christ. If we want to expose a false teaching why don’t we season our speech with salt and do it in love. There is no love here.

    1. Teaching, doctrine, or practice that contradicts God’s Word = false teaching. Ecumenism = false religion.

Of course the world knows Christians by our love; yet, it is that very love that will not permit us to remain silent while others are deceived by the craftiness of “We all worship the same God,” or “All that matters is the gospel do not be concerned about doctrine,” etc. The deception of ecumenism is a pervasive fog that has blinded people to follow men/women who contradict the very words of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The world first knows us by our unwavering love for God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit for having been reborn and blessed to:

It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: 12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: 13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. 2 Ti 2:11-16

Compromise is not love it is folly and leads to destruction. Wherever God condemns practices as pagan in scripture, whether disguised as prayer or a misguided motivation to create a false unity, heretical ideas spread like ants at a picnic. God speaks through His Word to His children for the world can not receive it for they are not indwelt by the Holy Spirit.

All disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ were given the Great Commission: And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Mt 28:18-20

  2. several several years ago I attended a Beth Moore study and I heard as she spoke very loudly (her volume always irritated me) a concerning ecunemical flavor and I immediately saw red flags. Some of the ladies at the church I felt “worshipped” her and I found it unsettling to a point I dropped off the Beth Moore bandwagon. Later, I heard her being interviewed on I believe Focus on the Family, another false organization with the veener of christianity…she talked about how she does not cook for her husband (because she did not know how) and he cooks for her…I thought it strange how a woman who did so many things did not know how to read a recipe…it made sense then how her husband was subservient since she was disobeying Gods word and teaching men…a role reversal.

    1. Many years ago I likewise was shocked to view otherwise rational women go absolutely gaga over Moore, they hung on every word as though she were speaking gospel truth having insights we mere mortals are not granted via the Holy Spirit’s indwelling presence. Glad you had the discernment to realize how dangerous her so-called teaching is; and your use of “worship” describes my own observation despite only attending a few meetings due to this very phenomena. Focus on the Family long ago left the reservation doing far more harm than good. As stated in previous comments, Moore came in soft of voice, appealing to women in need of a hero/mentor who appeared to have it all together, and she betrayed that trust by introducing damnable heresies, New Age, ecumenism, contemplative “listen for the voice of ‘god”. What voice is she hearing? God speaks through His Word, I do believe she is part of the religious harlot being formed and it is sad so many women are blinded by what she is. How laughable she is lauded as the ultimate Christian woman, but bake a cake. Doubtless I will again receive the wrath of the many Moore-ites. So be it.

  3. talking with some today, let them talk long enough and you’ll hear for yourself their ..distance..from the word of God. One guy said to me recently that he’s beyond faith, doesn’t need faith nor the word of God as God talks to him directly now. (but if not the truth and also anchor of the Word, what does he hear and where is it leading him?). Another told me recently that he (a catholic) is getting with some baptist church and teaching them contemplative prayer and also they built a labyrinth on the property where they can walk and contemplate how their either lost at that time or saved. unstable salvation? how would they ever be sure? His Spirit not testify with them they are His? anyway talking further with this guy he showed little regard for the truth and anchor of the word of God and had little to no knowledge of the modernist catholic teachings and the false Christ they have. It’s fun, so he said. fun is the all in all today.

again the same verse, people perish for lack of knowledge, refusing to look into a matter to see. ..yet when buying a used car their more careful.
I’d never heard of these people mentioned in this article but have looked at contemplative prayer and roman catholic mysticism from old (which some of it is being brought back again, expect to hear of even stranger things), the interfaith with it’s false Christ and the ecumenical, all of it horrible.
Keep up the warnings and getting the word out. Without an anchor (and the word is so much more then just an anchor), wouldn’t we all go adrift.

    1. Astute observations, and thank you for the edifying words. Satan provides lying signs and wonders to keep men pursuing the demonic rather than the Gospel, and Contemplative, Spiritual Formation/Disciplines, visions, etc., enslave people to experience and looking inward to the deceitful heart to a god created in their own image – all preparation for worshiping the man of sin.

Proponents of ecumenism insist we overlook serious doctrinal error and focus only on that which we, seemingly, have in common – belief in Jesus. Our beloved Savior repeatedly exhorted us to “let no man deceive you” and “beware the leaven of the Sadduccees and Pharisees” (false doctrine); nevertheless, error burgeons and stadiums bulge with people attending motivational speaker pep rallies. The ecumenical deception of Chrislam and Catholicism permeate denominations and will culminate in false professors persecuting true believers; but, praise God, we are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  4. Looks to me like you’ve cut and pasted alot of stuff together to prove a point. Anyone can do that to someone to try to discredit them. May God have mercy on your soul. Your not pointing to a false profit your bashing people who’s theology may not completely line up with your legalistic banter,

    1. There is no desire to “discredit”, only point to sound doctrine. God had mercy on my soul to draw me unto salvation in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ; and, theology is not to be found in any man for it is the study of God and His Word.

This is very disturbing to see Beth Moore like this. She seems completely different from how she used to be–her tone and look alone are strange. She used to be gentle and loving, but now there is something edgy that isn’t right, aside from the obvious things. It is also disheartening to see John Piper going this way.

    1. Compromising on doctrine and embracing mysticism has terrible consequences not only for those who labor against God, but for the hearers as well. It is disheartening to witness Piper, and others, seemingly value conferences, books, and being with the, for lack of a better word, “in” mega-this guy or that.

        1. Pamela,

“Not forsaking the gathering of the brethren, all the more as you see that day approaching” has caused much sorrow over the past decade as denominations morph into that which has nothing to do with God and everything to do with elevating mankind. Discernment is crucial and the moment any pastor, or other teacher introduces books that veer off into any of these areas condemned by God – leave. There is a remnant who will remain true to our Lord Jesus Christ and His Word and will not love this life unto the death, but persecution from false professors is an inevitability. It is most distressing how false teachers and their ideologies have permeated every denomination, or at least the exposure they receive makes it appear so, stay strong and continue in the pursuit of wisdom and God will guide you into all truth and make you aware of errant teaching. At that point, gathering with a few as the first century church did, and many other countries already do will be the prudent course.

  7. Thank you for further confirmation of the dangers of Beth Moore’s “teachings”. The Holy Spirit pricked my heart the first time I encountered one of her studies, years ago, and I ran in the other direction. Many women I know (including my former pastors wife) idolize this woman and refuse to even hear anything regarding her false teachings.
Sadly, Beth Moore is not alone in this grand deception-so many to wary of.

In fact, my husband and I recently left our church after too many signs of “emergence”.
We are praying to find a doctrinally sound place of worship.

Praise the Lord for discernment! Moore has an appeal as wife, housewife and mom which she markets effectively and this cloak enables her to slither in promoting Eastern mysticism. You’re correct about this burgeoning as thousands seek experience, acceptance, and a “spirituality” that veers from the narrow path Jesus requires. Women I know are Moore’s fiercest defenders when shown her teaching is unbiblical, pointing out how she helps so many but we can pray God open their eyes to this demonic deception.

Departing a church can be painful, but increasingly many have to do this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PhtAWr2UQ4 God is faithful and He will lead you to another church as He did for my family.
