Joel Osteen, Oprah, Rhonda Byrne … Law of Attraction

May God open the eyes of those deceived by this compromising, smiley-faced motivational speaker who never preaches from the Bible and whatever some would say qualifies as preaching entails his manipulation of the text akin to The Message, a paraphrase of Holy Writ which does not resemble the Bible. A challenge to any who disagree, take out a King James or Geneva 1599 and locate the verse that so smoothly flows from Osteen’s mouth.

Satan was so insolent he challenged the Lord Jesus Christ in the desert by misquoting Scripture, and in a display of unimaginable arrogance, suggested his Creator bow down to him in worship! Disturbing is how Osteen has proven himself inept at giving a clear proclamation of how a sinner comes to salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ, and skirts the issue of absolute depravity, need of repentance and refuses to use the word sin. Osteen refuses to use the word as it might offend and he prefers to “just tell people Jesus loves them”. If you attend Lakewood, understand Osteen has no theological training, which, in itself is not a bad thing, however, if one has set himself up as pastor and persists in doctrinal ignorance he is on dangerous ground with God as Jude makes clear.  “Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.” (Jud 11; see also 16-19)

Moreover, caution should be exercised in choosing to remain under the teaching of a man who has a perpetual smile plastered on his face. “Yea, and all that seek to live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” (1 Tim 3:12). “Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” (Mt 5:11-12)

Shamanism/Law of Attraction

The very same New Ageism of Oprah Winfrey, Barbara Marx Hubbard, Eckart Tolle, Rhonda Byrne and others, including those who practice Wicca, believe in the Law of Attraction: metaphysical idea that you attract into your life whatever you think about, dominant thoughts will find a way to manifest themselves. In fact, Rhonda Byrne’s book is based on the originator of this New Age metaphysical meditative approach to life, Abraham Hicks “The Teachings of Abraham.” One statement on Abraham’s site reads, “Energy focused into our physical bodies, and that a conscious connection to that Broader Non-Physical part of us is necessary if we are to be joyful Beings that we were born to be. Abraham calls that wonderful alignment Getting into the Vortex.

It is repulsive and a disgrace to the Lord who died to purchase sinner’s to witness Osteen engaged in this, and is indicative of what is harming the many thousands of souls attending Lakewood. For they have been deceived that such demonic doctrine are the tenets of Christianity; however, the tenets of Plato are of equal value with regard to eternity, none.

Osteen Quotes:

It’s time to use our words to declare good things! Speak blessings over your life and your family. Throughout the day, say things such as, “I have the favor of God. I am strong and healthy. I’m well able to do what I need to do.

This is the result of “purpose-driven” ideology which has so saturated men who strive to be the next media darling granted platform to portray the false Christ, who when he comes will lead millions to eternal damnation.

“Did you know that what you say about yourself has greater impact on you than anything anybody else says about you? Many people are overly critical of themselves, saying, “I’m so clumsy. I can’t do anything right.” “I’m so overweight. I’ll never get back into shape.” “I never get any good breaks.”

How Wolf-of-Faith, Mr. Osteen. Quite reminiscent of Kenneth and Gloria Copeland, Creflo Dollar, and Joyce Meyer of the name it, claim it, blab-it-‘n-grab-it infamy. Satan’s strategy since the Garden has been to convince mankind apotheosis is attainable. Kenneth Copeland said, “Adam was not a little like God … not almost like God, “the believer becomes ‘as much an incarnation as Jesus of Nazareth'”; lastly, “You don’t have a God in you. You are one.Gloria Copeland said, “When God breathed the breath of life into Adam, He transmitted His very self into him. God imparted the same spiritual substance of which He is made into Adam’s being[1]

Featured in a documentary, Suffer the Little Children, exposing deception of WOF presents Creflo Dollar in an exchange with congregants (Abbreviated D and C, Dollar and Congregants respectively)

D: “If horses get together, they produce what?”
C: “Horses!”
D: “If dogs get together, they produce what?”
C: “Dogs!”
D: “If cats get together, they produce what?”
C: “Cats!”
D: “So if the Godhead says ‘Let us make man in our image’, and everything produces after its own kind, then they produce what?”
C: “Gods!”
D:Gods. Little ‘g’ gods. You’re not human. Only human part of you is this flesh you’re wearing.”[2]

In Genesis 1:26 God declared, “Let us make man in our own image, after our own likeness: no implication of “deposited divinity/godhood”. Creflo’s position expresses no reason for the Lord Jesus Christ to have donned the flesh of His creation, living a sinless life to destroy the power of darkness and provide a means of salvation for all who repent and believe upon His Name.

“They may not realize it, but they are cursing their future. Those words sink into their minds. Before long, they develop a defeated mentality, low self-esteem and diminished confidence. Worse yet, those negative mindsets can interfere with God’s plan for their lives.”

Doubtless Pharoah would not concur as all his defiance brought the destruction of his empire, and the firstborn of all Egyptians but not the Jews in Goshen. Mr. Osteen is wrong in stating negative mindsets can interfere with God’s plan for their lives. God is Sovereign and orchestrates history using both righteous and unrighteous men to fulfill His plan. (See Rom 9:17-24) Simply put, all who are meant to come to salvation will, for His Word will not return unto Him void and saints names were written in the Lamb’s Book of Life before the foundation of the world. “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth:  It shall not return unto me void, But it shall accomplish that which I please, And it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Is 55:11)  “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.” (Eph 1:4-5)

We’re all familiar with the saying nothing is sure in life but death and taxes. However, we need add every soul will face judgment and answer God as to why they rejected His Son and salvation. Come to salvation, and much of what previously troubled you will be peeled away by God who will make known to you His incredible love and forgiveness.

“One of the best ways to break free from such strongholds is simply by speaking words of victory. Every day, look in the mirror and declare, “God’s Word says I am strong. God is fighting my battles for me. I’m excited about my future.”

The Lord Jesus shatters all strongholds, “(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” (2 Cor 10:4-5) Repentant sinners are safe within His hand, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me, And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any pluck them out of mine hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and none is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one.” (Jn 10:27-30)  The Lord Jesus Christ is Omnipotent and gained victory at Calvary, and — for the child of God — removed their sin as far as the east is from the west. Speaking words of victory when one refuses to acknowledge the core issue of sin is much like attempting to stop up a broken levee with a bandaid.

“Maybe you are lonely because you don’t have a lot of friends. Instead of complaining, start declaring, “God is bringing great people into my life. I know He loves me, so I can risk loving others.”

For close friendship, if one is not born again and pursuing fellowship with other believers it is unlikely ‘great’ people are being sent by God into his/her life, but Satan will gladly fill your life with people that will bring you harm. Osteen is correct, there is risk in loving others, but we in Christ are called to love our neighbor as ourselves, a foreign concept to much of the world. Our family has acquaintances that are not believers but we love them, offer help whenever they are in need and we are able. This is how we demonstrate the love of God to the lost around us.

“Speak blessings over your life, and as you do, you’ll go out with more confidence, you’ll be more congenial and, in turn, you will attract new friends.”

Again, Law of attraction.

“When discouragement comes, instead of sitting back and accepting it, say, “No, I’m a victor and not a victim. I may have been defeated before, but the past is the past. This is a new day.” It’s not enough just to think it; you need to hear it, because what we constantly hear ourselves saying we will eventually believe.”

When discouragement rears its head, seek God in prayer, like David:  “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, Who is the health of my countenance, and my God.” Ps 42:11 Of course that does not sell books. God makes all things new and cares for His own. Born again believers ceased being “victims” the day they were reborn and the Holy Spirit came to indwell us. A scripture that beautifully conveys this, “Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; For in thee do I trust: Cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; For I lift up my soul unto thee.”  Ps 143:8-9

“Some people live in a perpetual state of financial crisis. They can’t seem to pay their bills — always living “under their circumstances” and constantly speaking defeat.”

Osteen promotes ‘The power of I AM’ which is Shamanism. God’s feelings on such practices (Mic 5:12; Nah 3:4; Gal 5:20). Also, we can use our tongues to edify or tear down, but has absolutely nothing to do with being little gods capable of speaking things into existence. Moreover, a man that is worth over a million dollars and whose business rakes in millions in donations from people already struggling financially who can probably barely afford to eat due to the deception that in order for God to bless one must give. Jesus made it clear that God loves a joyful giver. This ten percent tithe is part of the Law, and does not apply to the church for we are to give freely as we are able to bless another. Why not give a coat to a laborer who has one that is threadbare? This what helps us to reflect the love of God to this lost world! Childlike faith and absolute trust in God to provide is all He requires, he has knowledge of our needs. However, we must then be satisfied with shelter, food, and clothes.

Chinese Christians are filled with joy but they are not chained to materialism. Equating financial success with God’s pleasure is folly. While walking the earth, Jesus was clear how he viewed money changers. He sternly rebuked the religious leaders for abusing the poor, “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses,” (Mt 23:14). “And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites. And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all: For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had. (Lk 21:2-4, cf. Mk 12:42) Prior to His incarnation,to both Jews and Gentles who believe in God usury was forbidden, and every seven years debt was to be wiped out. Christians are to lay up treasures in heaven and hold loosely to the things of this world which are fleeting (Mt 6:19-20).

One last thought on this idea of “speaking constant defeat“. A millionaire, Mr. Osteen does no idea of financial hardship so it is quite easy for him to tell people to just “think positively.” He just is not able to empathize in this regard. The Lord Jesus has much to say about those who fleece the flock for financial gain. Another applicable verse, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” (2 Tim 4:3-4)

“If you are struggling financially, remind yourself repeatedly, “I am the head and I am not the tail. I will lend and I will not borrow. Everything I touch will prosper and succeed.”

Misapplication of Deuteronomy 13 which was contingent upon Israel obeying all the commandments. Let’s face it, everything we touch does not prosper. We are living in difficult times but can trust God works all things together for the good of those who are called of God according to His purpose, and all good and perfect gifts come down from the Father of lights. Trials are for our good, they refine us and prove our faith  making us stronger for what lies ahead. A period of which Jesus said that unless cut short no flesh should remain upon the earth.

What does he even hope to convey by that statement? God describes those who are friends with the world, “whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?” (Jas 4:4-6)

  • “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” (James 1:2-9)
  • My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. (Hebrews 12:5-11)

Please keep in mind this is not a personal attack on Osteen, but a plea for any listening to him to read their Bible and understand they are being seriously misled. The time for getting right with God is know, no yesterday. The latter days are upon us, and only an one whose main diet of information is the television rather than the bible and alternative media is able to deny there is something amiss. It is palpable among the way complete strangers interact with each other, the very lack of natural affection the Lord foretold would occur. The horrific embracing of all things occult, and church goers who discern nothing wrong with remaining in a church that is apparently blinded to some of the larger names that are teaching heretic ideas that would not have been tolerated a mere 20 years previously.

Frankly, after listening to several interviews of Osteen on various media venues it is woefully apparent he does not read the Bible. He is so double-minded that he is unable to clearly convey the gospel when presented with a crowd of tens of thousands depending on the media source. Those who care about their eternal soul, please pray about departing such churches headed by wolves that have been judged long ago like the angels who kept not their own estate. God will not be mocked. It is not possible to have one foot in the world and the other foot in the church club environment and maintain a confident assurance of heaven. Woe to all who presumptuously assume role of pastor merely scratch itching ears for filthy lucre. There is a day of judgment ahead and it will not be pretty.

  1. goodness….Keep in mind that Satan loves the fact that Christians constantly disagree with each other and downgrade each others message!! Has anyone thought that Joel’s message has a place and that some folks need to hear it. On the other hand, too much of it is not good either. The point is, that Christians look horrible when the get it wrong. Plus they look awesome when the get it right. Come on Christians, we need to love each other before we can even think about loving our enemies…

    1. I am aware Satan thrives on pitting Christians against one another, but I seek to obey God’s command to call these individuals out by name. Mr. Osteen has been granted forums with Larry King, and even when pressed refused to clearly express the need to repent of sin. He told Larry that he believes this was more for his father’s generation and he just wants to love people and tell them Jesus loves them. While we know God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked, they still go to hell barring repentance unto salvation. It is duplicitous to claim to represent God and create a pseudo-Christian mixture of occult ideas with feel-good motivational speeches that have never, nor will ever, saved anyone for only the Gospel can do that.
As to loving others, this blog is a labor of love. The reward is often very unkind comments that are not posted to avoid harming visitors to EZC. Yours is kind and I appreciate that. It has been, and remains, my prayer that nations I see visit learn as their nations are hostile to Christianity and forbid ownership of bibles. In conclusion, each time Jesus began to explain what would characterize the beginning of the Day of the Lord began by stating, “Take heed that no man deceive you.” Like all believers, I’m certain I have enemies but are unaware of them. I do not know how long you have been visiting this blog, but it has been through many changes and will probably morph again as the Lord leads. Thank you for your comment. Have a blessed day!

  2. Excellent blog.

I attended Lakewood Church in Houston for 2 years. Under the spell of Joel Osteen’s witchcraft, I believed God to be a magic genie who was here to give me my heart’s worldly desires as everything I touched turned to gold. I heard nothing about sin being the root of all my problems. There is not 1 cross in this false prophet’s church. You will never hear anything of the crucifixion, resurrection, power of the blood, etc. Everything seemed real pretty and new but something inside me told me this guy and his wife were full of crap as I sat through simple, watered-down, recycled messages week after week in the Colosseum of megachuches.

Needless to say, I never had that born-again experience I so desperately needed to overcome huge obstacles in my life like drug addiction, lust, and SIN itself.

The guy is on the cover of every one of his books. Behind that charismatic smile and southern drawl is a host of demons. Satan still masquerades as an angel of light and this church is a perfect example of this. Joel never mentions Jesus or Yahweh/Jehovah but instead talks about “god” the entire sermon. Right before the band hits the finishing music, he lifts his fist in the air and says “IN JESUS NAME!”

Sadly, I met many nice people in this false church who believe everything Joel Osteen tells them.

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.” -Adolf Hitler

    Stand in Truth, friend. †

    1. Thank you for the kind words. Sad how many have been taken in by Osteen. How blessed we are to know the power of the Lord Jesus Christ over all addictions and sin! Blessings in the Lord.

  3. i need Jesus to be forgiven.if the law of attraction will give us what we want then people will forget their savior and the word of GOD will be no meaning for them.being positive is good but that does not mean we should forget our precious Lord and his word who is the prince of our peace. we should encourage the people about the Gospel of christ which will give the real joy, happiness, and the salvation which law of attraction could not give. law of attraction says u want money then u attract it. anything u want u just attract it and it will be menifested . Can anybody say that i want salvation can i attract it. which is not possible without accepting Jesus christ as our Lord and our Saviour. And God’s way is better then any other way.

    1. Prashanth,

Amen! Sadly, many are being seduced by doctrines of demons because they do not read their bible and blindly follow blind guides just as our precious Lord cautioned against.

    2. It’s ignorant for you to state people who think positive will forget God. This shows your lack of the LOA Principle and intolerance of others. 2nd comment: Funny, now you and only you knows what appeals to God.

      1. The “law of attraction” is neither law nor truth; rather, it is deception peddled by those most lauded by the secular, deceived culture. Apropos the quote from a Barbara Streisand song, “Send in the clowns, don’t bother there here.” Sadly, their demonic influence is three-fold: occult, motivational personality cult speakers, and the New Age Order’s “O”.

Truth proceeds from the mouth of God as found in the Bible. Thanks be to God Almighty all people encompassing His Creation shall either 1) plug their ears and pretend sin is a-okay, 2) bend the knee in submission to the Creator of mankind, or 3) remain blissfully ignorant until, as Judge, He determines their eternal resting place: heaven or hell.

  4. I think you are the one interpreting the Biblical message wrong. If you chose to look at God’s word in such a negative light, then that’s your choice. But Jesus said in Matthew 9:29 “According to your faith, will it be done to you”. I think you need to widen your perception of God’s goodness. God works for the good of those who believe. Just because Joel’s message is positive and doesn’t always focus on sin doesn’t make it any less of a message from God. That’s just my opinion though

    1. Kevin,

The law of attraction originates in the occult, but please research the names provided in the article for yourself. That which originates with Satan offers nothing either truthful or positive. Conversely, God is love (1 Jn 1:16). Matthew 9:29 demonstrates the men’s faith (trust) that God can heal; however, sometimes He does not heal but God is always good and the error so many make today is superimposing what they desire as what God should do some even say “you do not have enough faith” if the healing prayed for does not happen. This suffers God’s goodness not at all; rather, it reveals a lack of trust (faith) in God as Sovereign. “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” Heb 11:6.

Trials are part of the Christians life as Jesus said, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” Jn 16:33

It is the Gospel that brings salvation, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” Ro 10:17. “Joel’s Message” might appeal to his listeners but it does not appeal to the God who hung upon a cursed tree to atone for men’s sin!
